In March of 2014, I lost my niece, Nicole. She left behind a 3-year-old red haired little girl named Layla. My sister asked me to deliver the eulogy for Nicole and knowing that this would be a lot for a Layla to absorb, I decided to write the eulogy as a children’s tale so that Layla could better understand where her mommy went. A month after the services, I decided to turn the tale into an actual children’s book for Layla so that she would always have something to remember the kind of person her mom was. The story was written in a way that helps explain why some people leave, where they go and how they are never truly gone if we keep remembering them.
After months of working on the book, I finally got to read it to Layla.
